John A. Galbreath, attorney at law and managing principal, practices intellectual property and business law. His areas of practice include patents (searches, application preparation & prosecution), trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair competition, licensing, and litigation. He also advises on the strengths and weaknesses of third party patents and trademarks, provides infringement opinions, and represents clients in patent reexamination and trademark opposition proceedings.
Mr. Galbreath holds a BS in Chemical Engineering, a Master of Business Administration summa cum laude, and a Juris Doctorate magna cum laude. He is a member of the bars of New York, Illinois, Maryland, District of Columbia, Kentucky, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, U.S. District Court for Maryland, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit; and is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
Through carefully-selected associate firms, he also prepares and prosecutes patent applications in Europe and Asia. Mr. Galbreath is a member of the American Bar Association and various state bar associations.
In addition to over 25 years of intellectual property experience, Mr. Galbreath has over 20 years of corporate experience as an engineering and financial executive with Procter & Gamble, Texaco, Keebler, Automatic Data Processing (ADP), and the Bright Ideas Company, Inc., which he founded in 1997.
Mr. Galbreath is also an inventor in his own right, and has been awarded 12 U.S. patents and 5 international patents. These patents cover a broad array of innovative consumer and industrial products and processes, and have been licensed to prominent international companies or manufactured for distribution and retail sale. He thus brings a unique perspective to the practice of intellectual property law - one that understands and complements the inventive mindset.
